The entertaining vintage-style video from Chopard above introduces the brand’s Mille Miglia “Racing Colours” Limited Edition watches, part of the collection that commemorates the 30th anniversary (1988 to 2018) of its participation in the Mille Miglia car race held annually in Italy.
The Italian word “mille” means “one thousand” while the other, “miglia”, means “miles”. As its name in Italian implies, the Mille Miglia covers a 1,000-mile or 1.6km course over Italy and on public roads.
The Mille Miglia race begins and ends in Brescia, an Italian city in the Lombardy region that is also known as Leonessa d’Italia – the “Lioness of Italy”.
Chopard became a sponsor of the Mille Miglia car rally in 1988 and it has been the official timekeeper of this race till this day.
Did you know? It was only in 1997 that Chopard began marketing limited edition Mille Miglia timepieces.
The British novelist Edward Morgan Forster (1879 to 1970) once said, “The four characteristics of humanism are curiosity, a free mind, belief in good taste, and a belief in the human race.”
Well, for us, the Mille Miglia is a human race that encompasses good taste in vintage race cars and Chopard watches, a free mind during the race as anything can happen and a wonderfully colourful show for the curious onlookers who witness one of the most beautiful car races in the world today.
